The Embassy of the Kingdom of Lesotho, through its office in Johannesburg, together with the affected families and relevant stakeholders, held a memorial service for Basotho who lost their lives in a shooting incident while traveling in a vehicle in the Meyerton area of Gauteng.

Ms. Mamolefi Ntaitsane from the Johannesburg office representing the Government of Lesotho said on behalf of the Government, they attended the service to mourn with the affected families and to keep in their prayers those who are still receiving medical treatment in hospitals.

She said the Government of Lesotho is hopeful about the ongoing investigations and that those involved in this matter will face the full might of the law.

The Meyerton Police Station Commander, Colonel Mohale, said they made efforts to gather together at the place to show support to the families. He said their policing plan for 2030 is to ensure that every person feels safe, in line with the Sustainable Development Goals that bind governments.

Six Basotho lost their lives in the shooting incident while traveling in a vehicle from Johannesburg to Lesotho, and the cause was reportedly conflicts involving rival taxi operators.
