Thaba-Bosiu farmer to train Basotho on proper potato production

Thaba-Bosiu potato grower, Thabang Rakati, has said while there is strong demand for potatoes in Lesotho, many farmers lack the necessary skills to produce high-quality crops.
Speaking to Mohale FM today, Mr Rakati cautioned aspiring farmers not to be misled by the market demand alone, stressing that proper knowledge and techniques are key from planting to harvesting. He announced that he will host a training session this Saturday to equip interested farmers with the skills required for successful potato production.
Mr Rakati explained that although the Ministry of Agriculture recently restricted potato imports, many businesses still struggled to source local supplies because of poor quality. He said the training will cover soil testing, seed selection, farming methods, harvesting, and pricing.
He said potato farming is a demanding process, but when done correctly, it can be highly rewarding.
