Tanzania’s electricity utility TANESCO has signed a TSh198.67 billion contract with China’s TBEA for a new high-voltage transmission project serving Songwe and surrounding areas.
The project includes a 220kV line from Iganjo in Mbeya to Saza in Songwe as well as associated substation works. Authorities say it is expected to improve electricity reliability, support investment and strengthen supply to Songwe and Chunya.
Construction is scheduled to take about 18 months. The project also links into Tanzania’s wider transmission expansion, including the 400kV TAZA network.
