Human rights organisation Section 2 has raised concern over what it describes as conflicting statements by government officials regarding investigations into the case of journalist and Section 2 member, Kananelo Boloetse.
Speaking on an online platform on Tuesday, Section 2 member Ts’eliso Sebolao said the organisation was concerned by statements made by Police Minister Voeswa Tsheka in Parliament and Police Commissioner Advocate Borotho Matsoso during a press briefing.
Sebolao said while Minister Tsheka indicated that investigations were still underway, Commissioner Matsoso suggested that investigators had made no further progress because Boloetse remains unaccounted for.
Section 2 says the differing statements raise questions about the progress of the investigation, including allegations that some people implicated in Boloetse’s alleged abduction and mistreatment may be police officers.
