SADC Urges Lesotho to Release Dr. Lipholo and Provide Medical Care

The Southern African Development Community (SADC), through its representative Henry McCarter, has written to the Government of Lesotho requesting urgent action regarding the detention of Dr. Lipholo.

In the letter, delivered on Tuesday, SADC called on the Government to ensure that Dr. Lipholo receives immediate medical treatment, that police conduct a thorough investigation into his condition while in prison, and that he be released from custody.

The intervention follows a petition from Dr. Lipholo’s supporters, who claim he has been unlawfully detained.

However, Lesotho’s High Commissioner declined to accept the SADC letter demanding his release.
