SA government expresses condolences following death of Malawian national

South African government has expressed condolences following the death of Malawian national during repatriation operation.

The man was among scores of Malawian nationals returning home after the recent voluntary repatriation process that followed last week’s anti-illegal immigration protests.

The South African government has expressed its condolences after a Malawian national died during an ongoing repatriation operation. Government said the incident occurred after a bus had left the repatriation processing centre before turning back when the passenger suffered a medical emergency.

Police were called to the scene to conduct the necessary forensic and investigative processes before the bus was cleared to continue its journey to Malawi.

Meanwhile, the deputy government spokesperson William Baloyi said they will formally communicate the circumstances of the death to the Malawian authorities through diplomatic channels.
