admin Trauma and emergency care specialist Dr Mahlomola Kutoane has urged motorists to exercise greater caution on Lesotho’s roads, warning that deteriorating road infrastructure and reckless driving continue to claim lives.
Speaking to Mohale FM, Dr Kutoane, who is also a former first aid practitioner with extensive experience in emergency response, said many older roads have not been adequately maintained, making them increasingly hazardous for motorists.
His remarks follow recent fatal and serious road crashes along the Main North 1 Road, particularly around Tsereoane and, most recently, ‘Moteng Pass.
Dr Kutoane dismissed claims circulating in some communities that certain roads are cursed, saying road safety depends on responsible driving, vigilance and adherence to traffic regulations rather than superstition.
Meanwhile, a Berea resident, who requested anonymity, said the increasing number of accidents in the area highlights the urgent need for government to widen and rehabilitate the road. He added that because Teyateyaneng and Maseru are relatively close to each other, many motorists exceed the speed limit, increasing the risk of crashes.
