The South African rand weakened by more than 1% against the US dollar on Monday as renewed Middle East supply disruptions pushed oil prices higher.
Reuters reports that the rand traded around 16.32 to the dollar during the session. South Africa is a net oil importer, leaving the currency exposed to higher crude prices, while investors are also awaiting the US Federal Reserve’s policy decision for guidance on interest rates.
