Written by on November 11, 2025

The Radiation Protection Agency (RPA), a national body mandated to oversee the safe use of radioactive materials, has launched a training workshop aimed at increasing awareness and strengthening stakeholder engagement.

Speaking at the official opening of the session, the Deputy Principal Secretary in the Ministry of Environment and Forestry, Mr. Apesi Rats’ele, emphasized that although RPA is a relatively new institution, it plays a crucial role in regulating the use of radioactive substances across sectors.

Mojalefa Sello, Manager inspection Policy development and Enforcement in RPA noted that radioactive sources are often found in high-risk sectors such as mining, road construction, and large-scale industrial operations. He cautioned that improper handling of such materials poses serious dangers which can lead to death.

R.P.A is a Regulatory body which became active in Lesotho in January 2025 and was founded under the Radioactive protection-Agency act of 2018.
