Qoaling Village Grapples with Rising Crime and Youth Misbehaviour

The chief’s representative in Qoaling, Ha Besele, Pheko Lekhotle, under Chief Thato Matsoso, has raised concerns over increasing crime levels in the village, highlighting the theft of electricity cables as a major issue.

In an interview with Mohale FM, Mr. Lekhotle explained that village authorities work diligently to apprehend criminals and hand them over to the police so cases can be taken to court. However, he said that offenders often return within days, continuing to cause damage and unrest.

He indicated that the residents of Qoaling no longer feel safe due to these criminals who are causing serious harm in the community.

Mr. Lekhotle also highlighted a growing problem with unruly children, some of whom are very young and refuse to attend school. Among these youths, girls are particularly vulnerable, with some becoming pregnant at an early age.

Efforts to help these children change their behaviour have so far been unsuccessful. According to Mr. Lekhotle, contributing factors include abuse at home, being forced to take on adult responsibilities prematurely, and being denied access to education.
