More than 1.3 million Basotho could face health risks following the planned closure of the Health Maintenance Project Implementing Unit at the end of this month.
The unit currently oversees maintenance of water, electricity, sewerage, medical waste systems, buildings and ICT infrastructure at 226 health facilities.
Sources warn that without a clear transition plan, service disruptions and job losses could follow from October 1.
The Ministry of Health says its departments will take over the functions, but concerns remain over the transfer of resources, systems and responsibilities.
