South Africa’s parliamentary Ad Hoc Committee investigating allegations linked to the criminal justice system has asked National Assembly Speaker Thoko Didiza for another extension as it works to complete its report.
Committee chair Soviet Lekganyane said the panel is compiling a preliminary report and needs more time beyond its current 11 September deadline. If approved, it would be the committee’s sixth extension.
The committee has held a series of hearings as part of Parliament’s examination of allegations affecting law-enforcement and justice institutions. Lekganyane said the latest request is intended to give members enough time to consolidate the evidence and complete the draft report before it is submitted through parliamentary processes.
The development keeps attention on when the committee will conclude its work and what recommendations it may make once the report is finalised.
