The Public Accounts Committee has resolved to summon the Lesotho National Development Corporation — LNDC — after the corporation failed to appear before the committee this morning.
Only three members of the LNDC showed up, while several others, including the newly appointed Chief Executive Officer, Thabo Khasipe, were absent. The LNDC had been called to respond to issues raised in the Auditor-General’s Reports.
PAC Chairperson ‘Machabana Lemphane-Letsie, who was joined by Members of Parliament Napo Moshoeshoe of the ABC and MEC parties, adjourned the sitting and announced that the committee would formally summon the LNDC to appear.
During the session, LNDC Corporate Secretary Katleho Sakoane informed the committee that Mr Khasipe had sent an apology earlier in the morning, saying he could not attend.
However, Ms Lemphane-Letsie reminded the committee that, to her knowledge, Mr Khasipe still serves as Chairperson of the Lesotho Electricity Company Board, and therefore, any apology should have been addressed directly to the PAC. She instructed Mr Sakoane to remind Mr Khasipe of her position as committee chairperson and confirmed that a formal summons will be issued to the LNDC.
