The Olympic flame has arrived in Senegal ahead of the Dakar 2026 Youth Olympic Games, which will become the first Olympic sporting event staged on African soil.
The flame was welcomed in Dakar before beginning a nationwide journey through all 14 regions of Senegal. More than 400 torchbearers are expected to take part in the roughly 3,600-kilometre relay.
The Youth Olympic Games are scheduled for October 31 to November 13, with about 2,700 young athletes expected to compete across 35 sports in Dakar, Diamniadio and Saly. IOC president Kirsty Coventry attended the flame’s arrival.
