Namibia’s trade with Africa remains heavily concentrated in established regional blocs despite the opportunities created by the African Continental Free Trade Area.
Figures reported by The Namibian show the country exported about N$6.2 billion worth of goods to African markets in July and imported roughly N$7.3 billion, leaving a deficit of about N$1.2 billion. However, only a small share of exports went to African markets outside SACU and SADC.
South Africa, Zambia, Botswana, the Democratic Republic of Congo and Mozambique remain among Namibia’s main African trading partners. The AfCFTA is intended to help countries broaden market access beyond traditional regional arrangements.
