A N$122 million veterinary cordon fence project in Namibia is facing scrutiny after the Central Procurement Board cancelled a competitive tender and moved to emergency procurement.
The project involves about 185 kilometres of fencing intended to protect Namibia’s livestock export market from foot-and-mouth disease risks linked to neighbouring South Africa. The original process attracted 23 bids before being cancelled.
Political analyst Ndumba Kamwanyah said the procurement board should clearly explain why the competitive process was abandoned and why emergency procedures were considered necessary.
