Mohale’s Hoek Police Strengthen Efforts to Curb Road Accidents and Crime

Written by on November 2, 2025

The Mohale’s Hoek Police say they have implemented strong measures to reduce road accidents, which are often caused by reckless driving and alcohol abuse. The police explained that these improvements have been achieved through intensified awareness campaigns promoting responsible behavior among road users.

This was revealed by the Mohale’s Hoek Police Commander, Senior Superintendent Mapesela Klaas, on Thursday during a briefing on the station’s operations over the past three months — August, September, and October this year.

Senior Superintendent Klaas reported that murder cases, which had been a major concern, have shown a slight decline and that only one case was recorded in August and another in September, while two cases occurred in October. He noted that although public perception often links murders to gang activity, police records indicate that most of the cases stem from domestic or personal disputes. He cited a recent example in Sethaleng, where a man fatally shot his parents.

He further highlighted abuse in its various forms as another ongoing challenge. Of the four cases reported in August, most involved children abused by people close to them, such as parents, relatives, or guardians. Senior Superintendent Klaas said police are addressing this issue through community outreach initiatives, including house-to-house visits and educational campaigns in schools and churches to raise awareness about abuse and prevention.
