Mofosi Requests over M500 Million for Agriculture and Food Security Initiatives

The Minister of Agriculture, Food Security and Nutrition, Mr. Thabo Mofosi, has announced plans by the Ministry to strengthen agricultural production with over M500 million.

He made this statement in the National Assembly yesterday while presenting a request for the proposed budget allocation. The Minister explained that the funding will also be directed toward improving the wool and mohair value chain, enhancing food and nutrition security, increasing the marketability of agricultural products, and supporting small and medium-sized enterprises.

To achieve these objectives, Mr. Mofosi indicated that the Ministry intends to shift the sale of farming inputs to the private sector. In addition, new irrigation centres will be constructed in Leribe and Quthing, while existing facilities in Maseru will be rehabilitated, among other planned initiatives.
