Minister Mputi Leads Back to School Initiative at St. Bernadette Resource Centre for the Blind

The Minister of Public Service, Mr. Mputi Stephen Mputi, today led his ministry in celebrating the “Back to School” initiative at St. Bernadette Resource Centre for the Blind in Maseru.

Speaking during the event, Minister Mputi said the ministry deliberately chose to visit the school in order to gain a better understanding of the challenges it faces, with the aim of preparing the ministry to respond effectively to its needs.

He emphasized that living with a disability does not mean lacking ability, noting that the Ministry of Public Service employs a number of people with special needs. This, he said, is meant to reinforce the principle that disability does not equate to inability.

Meanwhile, Mrs. Mamoliehi Tamako from St. Bernadette Resource Centre for the Blind said the institution is the only school in the country that provides education to children with visual impairments. She explained that the school offers training in Braille, self-care skills, mobility, and other essential life skills.

During the Back to School event, learners received donations including bathing soap, washing soap, toilet paper, roll-on deodorants, and other basic necessities.
