Mohale FM The Minister of Public Works and Transport, Matjato Moteane, has responded to public concerns over vehicle fitness testing fees and the state of key roads across Lesotho.
Speaking during the Government’s Leadership Forum and Accountability Summit held in Maseru last week, Minister Moteane announced that motorists will soon be allowed to pay annual vehicle fitness testing fees in two six-month instalments.
He said the Ministry reached the agreement with vehicle dealers to make the payments more affordable.
On road infrastructure, the Minister said the Ministry is expected to sign a contract with a contractor in August for the upgrading of the Katse–Thaba-Tseka road to a paved standard.
He also said the Ministry is mobilizing resources through the Titima Fund for the construction of the ‘Mamathe–Mahlatsa road, with the procurement process for a contractor set to begin shortly.
Responding to concerns about the deteriorating Holy Cross–Quthing road, Minister Moteane said the project has already been approved and that a construction contract will be awarded in August to allow rehabilitation works to commence.
