Mohale FM The Minister of Agriculture, Food Security and Nutrition, Selibe Mochoboroane, says greater dialogue and collaboration with stakeholders and wool farmers could significantly increase revenue generated by the wool sector.
Responding to Lineo Phakela during the second day of the National Leaders and Citizens Dialogue held at the ‘Manthabiseng Convention Centre in Maseru, Mochoboroane said the country currently earns about M900 million annually from approximately two million sheep, producing around six million kilograms of wool each year.
He said his target is to increase annual wool production to at least 10 million kilograms so that the sector can generate more satisfactory income. He added that Lesotho should process its own wool domestically, spin it into yarn, and manufacture finished products locally to add value and maximize economic benefits.
