Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni says Italy’s economy could expand by about 1% in 2026, putting growth broadly in line with the wider euro zone.
Reuters reports that the estimate is stronger than the government’s earlier 0.6% forecast and follows quarterly growth of 0.3% in the first three months of the year and 0.2% in the second quarter. Italy had already accumulated growth of 0.8% by the end of June.
Meloni said high energy costs and weak productivity remain constraints, with measures aimed at addressing those structural pressures expected to take time to show results.
