Prime Minister Honourable Samuel Matekane has been honoured with the African Leadership and Governance Impact Award for his commitment to and progress in implementing reforms and fostering political stability in Lesotho.
This took place during the gala dinner at the 15th African Leadership Magazine Persons of the Year (POTY) ceremony in Accra, Ghana, held from February 26–28, 2026.
When delivering his keynote address during the ceremony, which was held under the theme “Leadership for a New Africa: Forging Our Peace and Owning Our Narrative”, Matekane indicated that Lesotho was removed from the Southern African Development Community (SADC) agenda due to positive progress in reforms and stability. He asserted that the future of Africa depends on strong institutions and leaders who honour their promises.
During a session dedicated to tourism and investment, he emphasized that Lesotho’s future is being built through partnerships, with a focus on private sector-led growth, infrastructure and renewable energy.
The African Leadership Magazine recognized Matekane as a leader who is transforming vision into reality, specifically praising his efforts in strengthening Lesotho’s governance.
