The Maseru City Council (MCC) has been locked out of the building from which it operates due to unpaid rent.
In an interview with Mohale FM, the council’s spokesperson, Ms. Lintle Bless, confirmed that the council had indeed been locked out. However, she declined to provide further details on the matter. As a result, it remains unclear how much the council owes, how long the debt has been outstanding, and what circumstances led to the non-payment.
The issue came to public attention after several residents contacted Mohale FM, reporting that they were unable to access services after finding the council offices closed.
The development follows recent financial challenges faced by the council. In December last year, Revenue Services Lesotho (RSL) seized MCC vehicles over millions of maloti in unpaid tax debt. The vehicles were later released.
