Mohale FM Street vendors in Maputsoe have chosen not to comply with the Roads Department’s directive requiring them to remove their stalls located near town roads, where road improvement works are planned. The vendors had been given until last Sunday to clear their goods and structures, but as of yesterday, their property and stalls were still in place.
In an interview, the Chairperson of the Maputsoe Town Council, Mr. Molungoa Leteane, said they had expected to find Maputsoe cleared by yesterday, but that was not the case. He noted that fewer than ten stalls had been removed by their owners.
Previously, the vendors had been given until the end of January this year to comply with the order, but they failed to do so.
Yesterday, officials from the Roads Department did not appear as expected, despite earlier assurances that the contractor would begin the work.
The vendors stated that they will not leave the area unless the town council provides them with an alternative location close to their customers.
