A 38-year-old man from Makhoatseng is in the Police custody in Thaba-Tseka on suspicion of murdering his 81-year-old mother.
According to a police report, on the night of 14 May at around 9:00 p.m., the suspect allegedly struck the elderly woman with an iron stick after she intervened while he was assaulting his children, accusing them of taking his torch.
Police spokesperson, Senior Superintendent Thabo Mohai, explains the incident.
The police said the elderly woman was due to be buried on 3 July, but officers received information suggesting that she had allegedly been assaulted and killed by her son.
