Malawi’s Democratic Progressive Party secretary-general Peter Mukhito has called for unity within the party while acknowledging that persistent electricity shortages remain a serious challenge for households and businesses.
Speaking at a senior party meeting in Mzuzu, Mukhito said power cuts continue to affect homes, companies and essential services, including health facilities.
He also highlighted increased funding channelled to local councils through the Constituency Development Fund, arguing that stronger coordination is needed to translate public spending into visible improvements in communities.
The remarks come as Malawi continues to grapple with pressure on its power system and broader economic constraints.
