The Mafeteng Magistrate Court has sentenced two men to 15 years’ imprisonment without the option of a fine for sexual offences. The court heard that 27-year-old Lehlohonolo Chaotsana of Tšakholo Ha Rabuka and Teboho Chomoko of Matlakauoeng committed the offence in April 2024.
The pair were also sentenced to five years each or a fine of two thousand maloti for robbery after stealing cash and other items from the victim. Evidence before court showed that the two men broke into the complainant’s home at night, attacked her and later stole money and personal belongings before fleeing the scene.
In mitigation, the accused pleaded guilty and asked for leniency, saying they are breadwinners in their families. Delivering judgment, Magistrate Mampho Mokuena said the convicts had acted cruelly and failed to protect a vulnerable woman.
She stressed that courts will continue to protect victims and impose harsh sentences on perpetrators of such crimes. The matter was prosecuted by Senior Crown Counsel Mabohlokoa Ntsinyi
