LPPA Holds Outreach to Raise Awareness on Public Procurement Act 2023

The Lesotho Public Procurement Authority (LPPA) has organized an outreach program aimed at creating awareness about the Public Procurement Act of 2023.

During a meeting held in Maseru on Tuesday, the Director General of the LPPA, Mr. Napo Lehata, explained that the purpose of the gathering was to enhance understanding of the new Act among government departments that utilize procurement services. He added that the authority is working on establishing structures and providing tools to improve the management and efficiency of procurement processes.

Meanwhile, the European Union (EU) Procurement Expert, Dr. Pamela Marendi, highlighted that procurement is a vital component of financial management in any country — including Lesotho — where it accounts for over 50 percent of government expenditure.

Dr. Marendi further emphasized that public procurement plays a key role in national economic development and has a significant impact on the broader socioeconomic landscape.

She noted that one of the main objectives of public procurement is to ensure value for money, promote transparency, and support social inclusion. This means that government spending should be efficient, open to public scrutiny, and beneficial to all segments of society, including vulnerable and marginalized groups.
