In a significant stride towards combating the adverse effects of climate change, Lesotho Meteorological Services (LMS) is set to launch a ground-breaking early warning application this week.
The Climate Service Information System (CSIS), a web‑based platform developed through a collaborative effort between Lesotho Meteorological Services (LMS) and the National University of Lesotho (NUL), aims to revolutionize how climate and disaster information is managed, shared, and utilized across sectors.
A lecturer from NUL and one of the system’s key implementers Khobatha Setetemela, expressed optimism about the project’s potential.
Mr Setetemela pointed out that the new system leverages automated weather stations capable of collecting vast amounts of data on various weather patterns. However, he emphasized that the true strength of CSIS lies in transforming raw data into meaningful insights.
The CSIS is designed not merely as a data repository but as an intelligent system that offers insightful, actionable information to support early warnings and informed decision‑making
