admin Community leaders in Lithoteng have pledged to ensure a fair and transparent recruitment process for labourers involved in ongoing road rehabilitation projects following complaints of unequal employment opportunities from residents of Mamenoaneng, Semphethenyane and Khotsong.
The concerns were raised during a community meeting, where residents alleged that some people were being overlooked for temporary jobs despite having actively campaigned for the construction of the road. Some community members noted that they had even been arrested during earlier efforts to advocate for the project.
Residents also expressed dissatisfaction with what they described as a lack of transparency in the allocation of employment opportunities.
Addressing the gathering, Lithoteng Councillor Relebohile Sechache said he had consulted with Chief Makoanyane Matsoso to ensure a fair recruitment process. He explained that the affected communities would be divided into three groups, Mamenoaneng, Semphethenyane and Khotsong, to promote equitable access to available jobs.
Chief Makoanyane Matsoso urged residents to remain united in their pursuit of development, noting that people from the three villages had previously worked together to secure the road construction project.
He also reaffirmed his commitment to supporting young people and ensuring their participation in community development initiatives.
