Leader of Lesotho’s Yearn for Economic Sustainable (YES) party, Molefi Nt’sonyana, has been appointed by the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) to serve as part of the SADC SEOM delegation to Zambia. The appointment positions Lesotho among SADC member states contributing observers to the regional exercise.
The mission will be headed by a Head of Mission and will receive support from the Organ Troika and the SADC Electoral Advisory Council. Before observers are deployed to the field, the team will hold engagements with a wide range of electoral stakeholders in Zambia.
SEOM will deploy observers to all 10 provinces of the country. Their mandate covers three phases: the pre-election period, polling day, and the immediate post-election processes.
Under the deployment plan, SEOM will release a Preliminary Statement on 15 August 2026. The statement will provide the mission’s initial assessment of how the electoral process was conducted. Following that, observers will continue with longer-term monitoring before compiling and issuing a Final Report.
