Lesotho is set to mark the observance of World Water Day 2026 in Qalabane Ha Ralintši, Mafeteng tomorrow, highlighting the vital link between water access and gender equality. The event, which will be held under the theme “Water and Gender” and the slogan “Where Water Flows, Equality Follows,” shall bring together government officials, development partners, community members, and stakeholders committed to advancing water security and gender inclusion.
The Government of Lesotho, through the Water Sector, with support from international partners including the European Union, European Investment Bank, World Bank, African Development Bank, UNICEF, and World Vision Lesotho, has invested heavily in water infrastructure projects.
Notable initiatives such as the Lesotho Lowlands Water Development Project Phase II and III, and the Lowlands Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Project aim to expand water supply to underserved urban and rural areas of the lowlands.
Upon completion, these projects are projected to benefit over 1.1 million people, with estimates reaching 2 million by 2040.
