Lesotho has reaffirmed its commitment to combating racism, xenophobia and related intolerance.
Delivering Lesotho’s national statement at a high-level meeting in New York commemorating 25 years of the Durban Declaration and Programme of Action, Ambassador Matete ’Nena said the declaration remains an important global framework against discrimination.
He called for urgent action to dismantle systemic racism, which continues to disproportionately affect people of African descent. Ambassador ’Nena also highlighted Lesotho’s history under apartheid and concerns over rising xenophobia and Afrophobia in the region.
He urged stronger cooperation, better data and national policies to address discrimination and welcomed progress on the trafficking and enslavement of Africans resolution.
