Lesotho reaffirms commitment to child rights at the 39th African Union Summit

During the 39th Summit of the African Union, the Delegation of the African Committee of Experts on the Rights and Welfare of the Child held a constructive engagement with Lesotho’s Deputy Prime Minister Nthomeng Majara.
The delegation, led by Sabrina Gahar, Chairperson of the Committee, met with Ms Majara to discuss strengthening cooperation on child protection across the continent.

The Chairperson expressed appreciation to Lesotho for hosting the Secretariat of the Committee and for facilitating the convening of its sessions.
In response, the Deputy Prime Minister reaffirmed Lesotho’s commitment to fully implement the host agreement and to continue supporting the Committee’s work through technical and financial assistance.
The office of the African Committee of Experts on the Rights and Welfare of the Child was officially inaugurated in Maseru in March 2021, marking a significant milestone in advancing children’s rights in Africa.
The engagement took place on the margins of the 39th Ordinary Session of the Assembly of Heads of State and Government of the African Union, held over the weekend in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
