The Government of Lesotho, in partnership with the United Nations Development Programme, has officially launched the Biodiversity Finance Initiative — also known as BIOFIN Lesotho. The initiative, unveiled on Monday, aims to help the country close its biodiversity finance gap and better manage its natural resources.
Environment Minister Hon. Letsema Adonts’i raised a concern over the growing environmental challenges facing the country, including rangeland degradation, declining wetland functionality, and ongoing soil erosion.
Meanwhile, Ms Rorisang Thamae from the Ministry of Environment explained that Lesotho is currently working on its third National Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plan. She said this updated plan is aligned with the global Kunming-Montreal Biodiversity Framework and aims to boost financing, technology, and partnerships to preserve biodiversity.
