admin Lesotho has called for stronger global partnerships to ensure developing countries benefit from artificial intelligence.
Speaking at the World Artificial Intelligence Conference (WAIC) and the High-Level Meeting on Global AI Governance, held in Shanghai, China, from 17 to 20 July 2026, Minister of Information, Communications, Science, Technology and Innovation, Nthati Moorosi, said artificial intelligence presents an opportunity to accelerate development in healthcare, education, agriculture and public service delivery.
Moorosi urged the international community to empower developing countries to become creators, not just users of AI technologies. She proposed the establishment of a global AI capacity-building partnership to support education, research and innovation, as well as a framework to help countries develop AI-ready public data systems.
