The Minister of Health, Selibe Mochoboroane, has described cancer as a severe and life-threatening disease that continues to affect many Basotho, claiming numerous lives over the years.
He announced that, in the 2026/2027 financial year, the Ministry of Health will allocate approximately M100 million toward the construction of a dedicated cancer hospital.
The Minister further explained that a delegation from the International Atomic Energy Agency recently visited the country to assess radiation-related services. Following their evaluation, the delegation provided key recommendations to ensure that the hospital is built in line with international standards.
In addition, the team advised on the selection of internationally experienced experts to be involved in the project. A consultant, project manager, and contractor have already been appointed and are actively working on the development.
