The Chairperson of the African Union (AU) Commission, His Excellency Ali Youssouf and the AU Nutrition Champion, His Majesty King Letsie III, met during the 39th Ordinary Session of the African Union Assembly of Heads of State and Government held in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, from the 10th to the 15 of this month.
During their deliberations, both leaders underscored the continent’s pressing priorities, encompassing peace and security, political stability, and sustainable development.
A primary focus was directed towards the indispensable role of nutrition within Africa’s overarching development agenda.
His Majesty King Letsie III advocated for heightened investment and political resolve to combat malnutrition and child stunting, which persist as formidable challenges across numerous African nations. The King emphasized that addressing nutritional deficiencies is paramount for cultivating human capital, promoting inclusive growth, and ensuring enduring prosperity.
Meanwhile, the Chairperson of the AU Commission and King Letsie III reaffirmed their mutual commitment to prioritizing nutrition as a foundational element of Africa’s development. They accentuated that enhancing nutritional outcomes is critical for unlocking the continent’s potential and achieving sustainable progress for future generations.
