LAT STRENGTHENS TEACHER REPRESENTATION, ADVOCACY

Lesotho Association of Teachers (LAT) Secretary General, Mr. Letsatsi Ntsibolane says there is a need to understand the role of teachers and employers in leadership to promote quality education.
This he said in an interview with the Agency at a five-day Transformative Capacity Building workshop for LAT leadership, staged in Morija starting on Sunday, with the objective to strengthen teacher representation and advocacy across Lesotho through intensive training in trade unionism, governance and education policy.
Mr. Ntsibolane indicated that although the interests of employer employee usually differ at times, there is need to put education at the forefront, saying the workshop will create a platform for participants to discuss in depth decolonisation of education and the education policy.
He added that Sustainable Development Goal 4, which aims to ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all emphasises further the need for teachers and government through the Ministry of Education and Training to lead in promoting education.
Meanwhile, the workshop, which is conducted by LAT with the support from the Canadian Teachers Federation and Metropolitan Lesotho brought together 110 LAT members across the country and is facilitated by experts from SADTU, LCN, NUL and Solidarity Centre.
Founded in 1986, LAT advocates for improved working environment, better education policies as well as professional and rights of teachers.
