LASA a success

THE Lesotho Sports and Recreation Commission (LRSC) successfully hosted its 5th edition of the Lesotho Sports Annual Awards (LASA) over the weekend at Victory Hall in Maseru.

LASA seeks to recognise, celebrate and honour individuals, teams, schools and national sports federations that have excelled both on and off the field over the past year.

The glamorous event saw dance sport sensation Bafokeng Liphalana scoring big as sportsman of the year. That was after having a very impressive season in 2025, winning several medals in local and outside the country competitions.

Local leading darts female player ‘Mamosebetsi Sehloho was named the sportswoman of the year, while Reitumetse Mabaleha from Match Day scooped the journalist of the year award. ‘Mamakhooa Lipakela scooped the sportswoman of the year: with disability award while Thuto Liphoto won the sportsman of the year: with disability.

Football female referee Liponts’a Lekuba was named the umpire of the year while Lesotho Football Association (LeFA) Competitions Manager Teboho Letseka became the administrator of the year. Coach of the year award was won by Paralympics coach Itumeleng Qhoai.

Volunteer of the year and team of the awards were won by Nthabiseng Tsunyane from rugby and under 17 female national soccer team- Lishoeshoe.

Junior female sportsperson of the year with disability and junior male sportsperson of the year with disability are Liteboho Lebona and Matla Lehata respectively. From athletics.

Junior female sportsperson of the year and junior male sportsperson of the year award went to swimmer Thabo Motsopa and soccer female starlet ‘Mampona Lekenyane. Olympian, sport legend who is also athletics coach Makoekoe Mahanetsa won the presidential award. Winners of the LASA will also stand a chance to be nominated for the Regional Annual Sports Awards (RASA), scheduled for May, with exact dates and venue yet to be confirmed.
