Six labour unions have announced that they are currently engaged in negotiations with employers to secure a 12 percent wage increase for workers across various sectors.
Speaking in an interview with Mohale FM, Solong Senohe from the Unite Workers’ Union said the unions have entered into discussions with employers to ensure that workers in several industries, including factory workers, receive a 12 percent wage increase. He added that workers in the contract sector are seeking a 15 percent salary increase.
Senohe explained that employers have so far offered a 2.5 percent wage increase. However, he emphasized that negotiations are still ongoing, as the unions are not satisfied with the current offer.
He concluded by stating that the unions’ primary objective is to ensure that workers receive a wage increase that is higher than the current inflation rate.
