admin The Department of Home Affairs has released a report on criminal cases related to the unlawful issuance of passports and corruption involving its officials, being investigated by the Lesotho Mounted Police Service (LMPS).
According to the report, 10 criminal cases were opened between 6 June and 14 July. The cases involve 16 suspects, of whom four have been remanded in custody, six are awaiting directives from the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), while five cases remain under investigation.
The charges include fraud under Section 68 of the Penal Code Act, 2012, as well as offences under the Corruption and Economic Offences Act, 1999.
District-wise, Mafeteng recorded two cases involving three suspects, Botha-Bothe three cases involving six suspects, Berea two cases involving two suspects, Leribe two cases involving three suspects, and Maseru one case involving one suspect.
The report was confirmed by the Department of Home Affairs’ Public Relations Officer, Ms Marelebohile Mathibeli, in an interview with Mohale FM.
