Higher Education Institutions have been encouraged to embrace Artificial Intelligence (AI) by adopting responsible practices that enhance learning while safeguarding academic integrity and educational standards.
The call was made by several speakers, including Enterprise Technology Solutions General Manager, Mr Desigan Naidoo, during the Higher Education Summit hosted by the Limkokwing University of Creative Technology in Maseru yesterday.
Addressing delegates, Mr Naidoo urged lecturers and academic institutions to exercise caution when integrating AI into teaching and learning. He stressed that AI should be viewed as a tool to support education rather than replace human knowledge, critical thinking and professional judgement.
He further encouraged educators to guide students on the ethical and responsible use of AI, ensuring that technology complements research, innovation and learning without compromising academic honesty.
Meanwhile, Sky Alpha representative Mr Kabelo Mollo, who described himself as an AI skeptic, added that while AI has the potential to transform higher education and drive innovation, its development and adoption should remain people-centred, ensuring that technology strengthens human capabilities instead of diminishing independent thought and creativity.
