Television producer Gugu Zuma-Ncube has called for stronger support for South Africa’s public broadcaster and local production sector, arguing that both remain crucial to developing the country’s next generation of screen talent.
Speaking to IOL Entertainment, the Stained Glass TV co-founder and executive producer reflected on the industry’s growth, the success of productions such as Uzalo and the importance of creating sustainable pathways for actors, writers and technical crews.
Zuma-Ncube said the SABC has historically served as a major training ground for the industry and that strengthening the broadcaster, alongside improved funding for local content, would help South African productions continue competing at home and internationally.
