Mohale FM The Government of Lesotho has urged Basotho living and working in South Africa to avoid participating in the ongoing labour strike taking place in parts of the country.
In a statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Basotho are advised to put their safety first by staying away from protests and large gatherings. The Ministry says the warning follows reports of violence in KwaZulu-Natal, where foreign nationals have reportedly been targeted during the unrest.
Basotho are encouraged to remain vigilant, stay in safe places, and follow instructions from South African law enforcement authorities.
The statement indicated that those requiring assistance can contact Lesotho Embassy officials in Durban, Pietermaritzburg, and Newcastle through the emergency numbers provided by the Ministry.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs says it is closely monitoring the situation and has urged Basotho to report emergencies through its hotline as efforts continue to ensure their safety.
