Mohale FM Prime Minister Samuel Ntsokoane Matekane has announced that all new passport applications will, with immediate effect, be processed within four days as part of government’s efforts to improve service delivery.
He said the Ministry of Home Affairs is also committed to clearing the existing backlog of passport applications, including long-outstanding cases, within the next three months.
The Prime Minister made the announcement during a leadership forum held in Maseru today, aimed at updating Basotho on government’s development agenda, key achievements and the challenges it continues to confront.
Mr Matekane identified passport shortages and unemployment among the country’s pressing challenges, saying government is implementing measures to address both.
He further announced that since June 24, passport applicants have been receiving mobile phone notifications updating them on the status of their applications, a move intended to reduce long queues at Home Affairs offices.
In addition, he said an online tracking platform has been introduced, enabling applicants to monitor the progress of their passport applications remotely.
The Prime Minister stressed that government remains committed to ensuring every Mosotho has access to public services that are delivered efficiently, professionally and with dignity.

Meanwhile, the leadership forum is reported to be the first of its kind. It follows a similar engagement held in Berea District last week, which was facilitated by a delegation from Rwanda.
