A German environmental organisation has gone to court seeking to overturn approval for expanded nuclear fuel production at the Lingen plant because of concerns over links to Russia’s state nuclear company Rosatom.
Reuters reports that BUND Niedersachsen is challenging Lower Saxony’s clearance for a Framatome subsidiary to manufacture fuel rods under a licensing arrangement involving Rosatom. The group argues that the approval process contained procedural shortcomings and that Russian-supplied equipment could create security risks.
Regional authorities say the legal challenge will be assessed, while the German government has previously said it views the cooperation critically but must operate within existing law.
