Mozambique’s ruling Frelimo party has opened an internal contest that is expected to reshape alliances and influence ahead of its 13th congress in 2027.
The move follows a decision by the party’s Political Commission and marks an early test of competing networks within Frelimo as members position themselves for the next phase of the party’s leadership process. The contest is expected to draw close attention because of Frelimo’s dominant role in Mozambique’s political system.
