Five Shop Stewards Sentenced for M200,000 Theft at Kobeli Shop

Five shop stewards have been sentenced by the Botha-Bothe Magistrate’s Court to either serve five years in prison or pay a fine of M15,000 each after being convicted of stealing goods from Kobeli shop in the district.

The convicted individuals are Retsibile Mokhants’i (32) of Ntlholohetsane in Mokhotlong, Thabang Motjofi (33) of Makopo, Reabetsoe Phomole (23) of Makopo, Busiziwe Mabaleha (29) of Levi’s Nek, and Nts’eliseng Secemeceme (30) of Ha Selomo.

Of the five, Busiziwe Mabaleha and Retsibile Mokhants’i were able to pay the fine and will therefore not serve the prison sentence.

The court heard that the accused stole various items from the shop over a period spanning July 2025 to January 2026.

The stolen goods included one green suit and numerous pairs of shoes: 41 Toughees, 27 Nike, 12 Jonathan D, seven Bronx, one Mazarate, 51 Grasshoppers, four Superga, seven Jordan, three formal shoes, 41 Puma, nine Jeep, one CAT, eight Adidas, 12 Eleven Rief boots, and 23 Love Rose formal shoes.

The total value of the stolen items is estimated at M204,900.
